There are, however, no age restrictions for orthodontic treatment or good oral health care. In fact, a growing number of adults are considering treatment with Invisalign clear aligners. Invisalign straightens teeth gradually through a progressive series of plastic aligners that gently move teeth within the mouth. Adults prefer treatment with Invisalign because Invisalign is easy to wear, removeable, and practically invisible to the casual observer.

Anyone 7-years old or older can receive treatment with Invisalign. (Seven-years old is a good age for children to have an initial consultation with an orthodontist.) Good oral health care habits need to be maintained while being treated with Invisalign, and there are a few things you’ll have to be conscientious of.

The Invisalign process is simple.

A course of treatment is developed using a computer-aided design program, and the Invisalign clear aligner trays are created specifically for the patient and their treatment goals. Orthodontic treatment with Dr. Sophia Scantlebury and Invisalign is as simple as wearing Invisalign. Once you start wearing the first set of Invisalign trays, the aligners work to exert a gentle pressure on the teeth to move them into their optimal position in the mouth.

Invisalign treatment is discreet.

The Invisalign aligners are made of a clear thermoplastic material. They are virtually invisible to the casual observer. No one will be able to tell you are undergoing orthodontic treatment to straighten your teeth. Invisalign is also removable by the wearer to eat, clean, floss, and clean the trays. Dr. Sophia Scantlebury recommends avoiding acidic, hard, or sticky foods and advises against smoking, drinking coffee, tea, and/or alcohol. These substances can stain or yellow the clear plastic of the aligners. Don’t forget to take the trays off before eating, but feel free to eat the foods you normally would.

A regular schedule of dental cleanings should be conscientiously kept when being treated with Invisalign. Because the Invisalign tray fits snugly over the wearer’s teeth, it can trap food debris against and between the teeth. Successful treatment with Invisalign is easy and effective and requires little of the wearer beyond ordinary oral hygiene and cleaning of the trays.
